By Joey Hodge Every fighter experiences his prime. He’s fast, experienced, loved by many fans, sometimes he’s the champion, and the poster boy for his division. They get special privileges and are treated like royalty. They love to fight and to cement their name in the books of history. But every fighter has one rival that it cannot beat: Father Time.Yes, it’s disheartening but being a professional fighter takes the toll on the body. Every strike weakens the chin by an …

The Quest for Anthony Pettis’ Lightweight Championship

In News by Robi VioLeave a Comment

By Joey Hodge Without a doubt, the UFC Lightweight Division is the deepest division talent wise in the UFC. With top fighters like Anthony Pettis, Benson Henderson, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Rafael Dos Anjos, Donald Cerrone, Nate Diaz, Josh Thompson, Bobby Green, Gilbert Melendez, and Edson Barboza, any champion would have his work cut out for him. Because anyone in that list could become the UFC Lightweight Champion. With current lightweight kingpin Anthony “Showtime” Pettis set to face former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert …

Nick Diaz admits that he would have failed had they tested him for substances prior to GSP fight.

In News by Robi VioLeave a Comment

It is one thing to get busted for a PED or THC before a fight, it’s a whole other thing when a fighter just tells you he would have failed. Stockton’s favorite son, Nick Diaz, has admitted that he would have failed his Substance test had he been given one prior to his UFC title fight with Georges St. Pierre, and goes a step further saying he would like to fight him again, just not in Canada “Where you can …

Rampage Jackson hints at UFC return: “Sometimes you should stick with the Devil you know”

In News by Robi VioLeave a Comment

Whether it is trouble with management or some other issues, we do not know. What we do know is that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson does not seem as happy in his new home at Bellator MMA as once was thought.  He seemed very happy under Bjorn Rebney’s regime, but it seems the Scott Coker era may not be to his liking. We’ll stifle our speculation and just give you the man’s words and you can judge for yourself.

The Divorce of Judo and Grappling Martial Arts.

In News by GCPLeave a Comment

Disturbing news for grappling martial artists worldwide. The International Judo Federation has issued a new memorandum regarding all ranked judokas under the organization. The memo states an effective ban from participating in competitions for other combat sports for all the aforementioned judokas, unless specific authorization is approved by the IJF. This effectively means that any IJF-ranked Judoka may not be allowed to compete in other grappling martial arts, such as BJJ, wrestling, sambo, MMA as well as any striking-based martial …

Your Own Worst Enemy

In News by GCPLeave a Comment

Cain Velasquez is a beast. Arguably one of the BEST boxers not just in the heavyweight division, but also in the UFC, he stands atop the mountain with a firm grasp on his belt. He’s turned back challenger after challenger, and repeatedly manhandled the only person who had the chance of handing him a loss. He is leaps and bounds above the rest of his weight class, with no shortage of monsters in its own right. And he’s this close …

The Easiest Choice in The World.

In News by GCPLeave a Comment

This week’s TUF episode made me think hard about a certain situation that fighters tend to experience on some rare, fortunate occasions. It’s when something really beneficial but totally surprising occurs. Be it a fight against a much higher ranked fighter, a sudden title shot, or a second chance, it’s usually something that blindsides the recipient. Simply put, it’s pretty much a lucky break. For discussion purposes, let’s call it The Gift. For something to be considered a Gift, the …

Win, Lose, or Draw: We still love you, Shogun

In News by Robi VioLeave a Comment

By Glen Pinnock Sometimes when our favorite fighters lose, its a hard pill to swallow. Legendary fighters become “fair game” for fairweather fans and cowards behind their keyboards. But here at PRIDE FC, recent losses do nothing to tarnish the set in stone legacy that these fighters earned years ago on the biggest stage in combat sports. Riddled with injuries and fighter mileage, its clear that Shogun isn’t the same fighter that tore through the ranks of the PRIDE Fighting …
